Presbytery people: Linley Liersch

Local congregations such as Crossroads UC can expect strong support from the Presbytery of Port Phillip West, now that a new minister is on the leadership team; the Rev. Linley Liersch.

Linley Liersch, Mission Development Strategist, has hit the ground running, with planning meetings of Presbytery. Half of Linley’s responsibilities are with the Synod of Victoria and Tasmania, as our regional liaison person “equipping Leadership for mission”. Synod’s new key department combines theological education and empowering lay people for  mission.

Growing up in Glen Waverley, Linley’s family attended Glen Waverley Uniting Church. She trained as a teacher, and soon moved over to working in Christian education at Doncaster UC.

After working as a Family Minister at Coatesville (Oakleigh South) she completed her theological education at Pilgrim Theological College.

Her ten years as a Uniting Church minister began at Seymour-Avenel-Nagambie, and recently Horsham and District, including Dimboola.

Linley says “My passion is Christian education and empowering lay people. For example, I want to develop Presbytery’s training of lay preachers, both on-line and in learning hubs where people strengthen each other”.

“And, I’m a big fan of Messy church, where kids and adults learn together in creative activities. I’m keen also to visit congregations, to share in developing mission education opportunities”.
Let’s pray for Linley and her new work in the Presbytery of Port Phillip. (NT)

Church Councillor nominations

Forms are available from today for nomination of members of the congregation as Church Councillors. Any member of the congregation is entitled to be nominated, but the expectation is of a commitment for three years for attendance at the monthly meetings (2nd Wednesday, 6 pm) and assistance with rostered duties on Sundays. Nominations close on 16 February, and elections will be held at the AGM on 23 February.

Justice Task Group

As we begin a new year, Crossroads/Hoppers Crossing UCs Justice Task Group is recruiting new members (see Micah 6;5 "The Lord requires this - do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with your God"). Come to our meeting on Monday 10 February, at 7.30 pm, at the community centre, Heathglen Village, 2 Glendale Court, Werribee. Let's hear your ideas. We'll plan for discipleship and justice activities in Crossroads and Hoppers Crossing UCs; and for linking with other people in the Wyndham community.

OSLO: February 23

Welcome to all new members and visitors to our ‘after church lunches’ on the 4th Sunday of each month. We visit local hotels or restaurants who are reasonably priced many with senior discounts. We car-pool as some of our church members need transport. These lunches are a great way to meet other members of the church and on occasions can be quite lively! This month we are going to a favourite venue “The Phoenix Hotel” at 22–30 Wallace Avenue Point Cook.

Senior meals are $14 main course, $16 for 2 courses. Please contact Elaine or Lorna before Thursday

20 Feb for numbers.
